We Need Your Help

Two hands holding a red heart, with the text "It's Easy to Help!" on the side.

Dear Neighbor,

As a current resident or property owner in our rural community, the Rocky Point Volunteer Fire Department is your licensed “first responder” in the event of a fire or a medical related emergency. This dedicated organization of volunteer firefighters and emergency medical personnel has been faithfully serving the greater Rocky Point area since 1973. To keep the department operating, we need to pass a 5 Year levy.

The Rocky Point Fire Department is responsible for fires, accidents, and medical emergencies in and around our 264- square mile area. To better serve and protect you, the department has secured over $500,000 in grant funds. Through these funds, training and hard work, the department has committed to improving their effectiveness and efficiency.

With this grant funding the RP Fire Department has specifically:

· Purchased fifteen fully certified turnouts (helmets, gloves, hoods and SCBA’s)

· Added new wildland gear (fire shelters, hoses, and wildland tools)

· Obtained two new fire engines and two ambulances with a back saving gurney system, new set of JAWS, structure hose, hose roller, hand tools and nozzles.

· Acquired sleeping quarters for two people at the station Sunday-Friday nights, new garage, new  sewer system, and new snowplow side-by-side.

The RP Fire Department is also receiving full accreditation with the Department of Public Safety Standard Training to teach in-house classes, is trained in hazmat operations and extrication, and has achieved Firewise status as a community (check with your insurance provider for a discount). Our Chief also sits on the ODOT county committee and a state committee for mobilization rates.

Grant funds cannot be used for operating expenses such as utilities, fuel, maintenance and payroll. These functions are only supported through your tax dollars. The current tax base has remained the same since the 1970’s.

On the May ballot we are asking for an $.82 cent increase per $1000.00 of assessed value for the Rocky Point Fire Department for a 5-year levy. Our current rate is $ 1.18 per $1000.

Please support your fire department by voting for the 5-year levy.

Sincerely,

David Carpenter
President of Rocky Point Fire and EMS
